design question - help me choose border order :-)

I think I am going to make a wallhanging (about 40" square) to enter a challenge contest in a show not too far from where I live. The challenge is to depict a book or scene from a book in a quilt (wallhanging to bed size). I am planning on doing an applique center with several borders. The applique will depict my favorite passage from the story. The first border will be a plain thin border of a contrasting color to the applique and the third border will be a plain thin cream border. I'm having trouble deciding which I should do for the 2nd & 4th borders. One will be QST made from charm packs, so it will finish at 3 1/2". The other will probably finish at 4" and will be bricks of tot/solids that coordinate with the QST & the applique on which I'll embroider some phrases from the passage I'm depicting. Can you help me decide? I'm including a simple graphic that shows the two designs.

I like the one on the left. To me it Frames the center as well as the Words Border! Great idea. Good luck! Luann in CT

I like the one on the left also. It's unique!

I also like the one from the left.

The one one the left shows the wording better.

And another vote for the left.

thanks everyone - I'll start making the QST tonight and pull fabrics for the other borders & applique and see what I need to buy to make it go together :-)

On the left! :)

voting for the left also!

I agree - Go with the left.
|
Definitely the left one. It seems to be much larger (an optical illusion!).
|
Absolutely the left - will 'showcase' what you have going on in the center much more effectively.
