Design Wall on the Cheap

I made a design wall out of the largest, flannel backed tablecloth I could find. Some Blue Painters tape and I'm done. Not the prettiest or fanciest, but the price is right. It works really well and when the flannel gets a bunch of threads on it.. well I cut a piece of freezer paper and use the shiny side down, place it on the flannel and IRON with a hot iron. Thread come right off and I just move the paper around until it's all clean again. The freezer paper works on most boards.

If it works for you, that is ALL that counts. I work mostly with small pieces with bargellos and it so handy to be able to stick a pin to make sure that the fabric doesn't shift or move an inch !!

I just made mine from 1 inch thick foam and love being able to stick pins in it when needed

Your freezer paper idea is a great tip. Send this one to the magazines!

Where did you find a large flannel backed tablecloth? I need to do a demo at Quilt Club in a couple weeks and I hve to figure out some kind of design wall to display the pieces. This idea should work--if I can find a LARGE flannel backed tablecloth.

Aborning, try stores like dollar tree, dollar general and party stores may even have clearance ones from off season. I can usually find them in stores like these, I don't know what you have in your area.

Thanks. My local $ store does not carry flannel backed quilts so I will look in some bigger towns.

I love the freezer paper idea! I also use a picnic table for my design wall but I put command strips Velcro on the back. I don't have one here in our new house yet but it's on my list
