I have two 4'x8' insulation boards covered with flannel sheeting. They are stacked & leaning against the wall when I work on individual blocks. I put them side by side when arranging the quilt itself.

Instead of flannelette, I used black fleece. I covered tentest sheeting and screwed it onto the walls. The bonus of fleece is the extra large width, plus it was less costly than if I'd bought flannelette. And of course, the fleece could be used in any of the other ways that have been suggested.
