Took a class today at a LQS and they had a really cool design wall that could be rolled up out of the way when necessary. It consisted of a plastic or pvc roll up shade mounted high on the wall. It was rolled down and had a piece of batting on it for placing blocks. After use or if room needed to be used for another purpose it would be rolled up out of the way. We have one on our patio to keep the sun from blinding us when we go out in the mornings. In the afternoon we can pull the cord and roll it up out of the way. The design wall would work the same way.

Wonder if you could buy one of those shades like on you patio and line it with batting like they use on the design walls? It would be the same thing, but might be a tad bit less expensive right now due to end of season sales........and a lot cheaper than trying to make. Think I'll take a looky-see into it.

That is what the LQS did and it worked great. They probably would be cheaper now. Might try Walmart.

Thanks for the idea!! I'm trying to make a new sewing room & wondered what I'd do for a design wall.

Lowes has the roll up shades 48 x 72 for only $19.95 I believe you have to order them on line and have them sent to your local store. It's free shipping though if you pick it up at your local store. This is what I'm going to do. Also JoAnn's has a 40% coupon I'm going to use for my batting to cover my shade. If it's not already on sale..... :0)

I wonder if you made one of those... could you roll up the quilt you are working on with the blind?
