I always use my darning foot for that hard to reach and small things I want to outline. It has always worked well for me.

Oh my goodness, thank you everyone for your help and advice. I in fact yesterday went to my local Janome store and looked at the fm foot. I was intrigued by it, but also very anxious about it. I was advised by the lady to try my satin (applique) foot first, and if I couldn't grasp that way, then maybe have a look at purchasing the fm foot. I will have a go today, and let you know how I go. Heres hoping.

I do hope some one can help me. I am trying to do a quilt panel, it is with clouds, flowers and owls on it. I am having a lot of trouble sewing around the clouds and flowers as they are a bit intricate. Should I just scream and cry or is there an easy way to outline them. I am trying to do it with a walking foot, but find I cant seem to follow the outlines, Any help would be so fantastic.

I have quilted around very small appliques of around 5mm in diameter using just my walking foot with feed dogs still up. I set my machine to the slowest rate possible and literally do one stitch, turn, one stitch, turn, etc. It seems like it will take forever but it really doesn't.
