Has anyone ever done one of her patterns. She says to use Ultra Hold heat and bond. It says you cannot stitch through this stuff. Has anyone ever used this and how do you secure your batting if you can't stitch through the bond? I could see stitching around designs but her patterns are pretty much the whole quilt

I would never use it in a quilt. Much to stiff.
|
I do agree. Certainly would not be my choice at all.

Can you use something that is not as stiff? something that will still hold it in place but not as stiff
|
I have used the heavier heat n bond for wall quilts that do not require washing like a quilt would. You do not sew on top of any heat n bond weather it is light or heavy. You use light heat n bond for applique when you want to machine applique over the edges of the design but when you want something decorative to hold very well without appliqueing it then you would use the heavier heat n bond.

You can sew over the light and it's stiff enough. Wonder Under is a little less stiff. The regular Heat 'n Bond will gum up your needle. My experience is dated, so I haven't tried the newer brands. I did recently use the lite Heat 'n Bond and it was stiffer than I remembered, but sewed easily.

it is for wallhangings-not bed quilts-
lots of time= totally no sew projects. so you don't bother stitching= if you want to make a real quilt- that you would stitch together you should choose a different fusable- made for stitching- like heat n bond lite- or steam a seam lite- or wonder under |
Wonder Under is my favorite. It does not gum up the needle and although it is not very stiff to begin with, it softens more as it is washed. I have used it many times for appliques on children's quilts.
