Determine binding length needed for a scallop border

I know how to calculate the binding length for a straight border but how do I determine how much I need for a scallop border?

For this, it depends on how deep the scallop is. Use a cord or soft tape to measure a scallop, multiply that by the # of scallops on the quilt, then add and extra 12- 15" , " just in case" allowance.:)

I mark my scallops cutting line with my Frixion pen. I take my long tape measure and just walk it around the scallops and add up the numbers. You can just measure one scallop and multiply but only if all your scallops are the same. Scallops need bias cut binding to maneuver the curves. Leave the scallops uncut until AFTER the binding is sewn one!

Take a measure which is flexible and move it along the scallops. You only need to do one long side and one short side. Add these two together and multiply by 2. I would then add on a good 6" for the final join and the corners may take up extra.

I haven't done it in a while, but I just measured one curve (x#curves if they are the same) and then curved corner (x4) and added extra to be sure not to run short.

Use a measuring tape, stand it up on the edge and then follow the curves. A good way to do it.
