Diamond Quilt

I have lots of 4" and 5" flower pattern squares I'd like to use to cut diamonds for a quilt. Everything I see online uses fabric strips for this. Any tips? I don't have a pattern for this quilt, and I'm on the lookout for that also. Thanks.

A quilter friend of mine just started a diamond quilt with a triangle template. It is from a magazine and the template was in the centerfold. I think MSQC has a tutorial icon a diamond quilt as well.

The reason diamonds are usually cut from straight of grain strips is it gives you 2 sides on the straight of grain and only 2 bias sides . Some diamonds can be cut from strips already sewn together like in the Lone Star quilt pattern. Find a free pattern and instructions you like on YouTube and use their method.

In alphabetical list there are quite a few “diamond” blocks in Quilter’s Cache:

I have fallen in love with the quilt pattern called Sweet Surrender. It’s all diamonds and triangles. Can’t find the pattern anywhere. It’s a pattern from 10 years ago. So, I went through my bin of rulers and templates. Found a diamond shape. A lot of the rulers have lines to make diamonds. But if you want to fussy cut the diamonds to center the flowers, then I would make your own template. Make it with the center open so you can get the best centering of the flower. Mine are bigger than the original pattern but oh well. If anyone has this pattern and is willing to part with it then PM me.

you could make your fabric go further by cutting half the diamond from each square and putting them together. Just a thought.

now why do they call those diamonds?. they are squares set on point.

Quiltwoman 44 must've been thinking as l was...that is, why not ditch the 60° diamond idea, and simply set your squares on point? Then there is no waste, it's easy to piece, and looks just as nice in my opinion. That said, l did purchase a diamond clear acrylic template a few yr. ago at a quilt show for $6.
I have only used it once for a cushion.
