Diamond in a Square
I am making a quilt which I found in a magazine. It is a Diamond in a Square quilt. One inside square is pieced, the other is a fussy cut. The unfinished block measures 10-1/2 inches. Here is my problem - the fussy cut inside square measures 7-5/8 unfinshed. However, the other pieced square measures 7-1/2 unfinshed. When you add the outside triangles to complete the block, it is impossible to get a 10-1/2 inch block with 1/4 inch at the points...
I have contacted both magazine and quilt designer but have not heard back yet. Any wisdom out there on this problem. |
According to EQ, for a 10" square in a square block the inside square would be 7 9/16" unfinished. 7-5/8 is 7-10/16, and 7-1/2 is 7-8/16, so each is only 1/16" off from the ideal size. That's probably close enough to make them both work, especially if you play with the seam allowance a little.

When ever you set anything on point, you are having to deal with a bunch of geometry. Hope this u-tube might help:

Is the diamond in your Diamond in a Square block a square itself, or is it an elongated diamond?
If it is a square, the following instructions may help you. Jan in VA |
