Help!!! I've seen a pattern for a baby quilt that uses diamonds and seen a tute on cutting diamonds but what I get are parallelograms. :( I've been practicing on scrap fabric. So I cut the 2 1/2" strip for 2" diamond then I cut on the desired angle, move up 2 1/2" and make another cut for the "diamond." That's according to the tute. Doesn't work for me. I do have a template but do not want to use it - hate cutting with scissors. The pattern is the diamond log cabin pattern that looks like Tumbling Blocks when it's put together. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

Make another template, lay it on your fabric. Line up your ruler and see what the difference is of the templates angle and the one that you are using. Use your ruler to make the cuts, and the template to help you line up your ruler :wink: :D:D

Amma;

Thanks, I'll give it another whirl. Have 3 projects going at once but want to get practice on diamonds before I actually started the baby quilt. :)

If you cut your strip 2 1/5 inches you first cut would be a 45 degree angle from the end, then line the 2 1/5 mark on on the ruler to the 45 degree cut you first made. When you cut, it should make a perfect diamond.

This is one I did for Christmas using a template and my rotary cutter. It went fairly fast as far as cutting goes.

Sorry about the sideways picture.

Used Amma's suggestion to cut a diamond and it worked. Will have to do much more practicing before the diamond looks good but thank heavens for lots of scrap fabric and other "ugly" fabric if needs be. Thanks to all for the suggestions.
