Sooooooooo since I am expecting a "little peanut" my husband and I have been looking at LOTS of baby stuff all over town!!

My mom asked me if I would like for her to make me a diaper bag. She did not know if I had found one I liked or if I had seen a pattern I liked better.

I know that there are SEVERAL patterns out there but I thought I would ask if anyone has ever done this and if so what they thought as far as pros and cons.

Thanks for any input :-)

The younger mom's like fabric that not babyish. Many are have the baby name embroidary on it. I would think you need lots of pockets. But what do i know My grandson is 15.

I have made 2 for other people and they loved them, they are more personal, and you can customize it to the colors and pattern of you choice

Congratulations on the little one.I made one for my neice, the baby is 5 months old, she said just a few days ago that she gets asked everywhere she goes where she got the bag and then gets asked if I will take orders! I put lots of pockets inside and out and made matching changing pad and small quilt. I also added strips inside for keyholders, pacifier holders etc.

I recently made one for my niece. It was a pink/green floral and stripe. I used 2 layers of the plastic canvas in the bottom to make it sturdier. It had lots of pockets on the inside and two pockets on the sides for bottles, etc. pm me if you want me to look up the pattern. The mom seemed to like it and it was the only one she received. I know sometimes they make a more masculine one for the dad to carry.

I make them with lots of pockets, even zippered pockets. Most new moms prefer them without the baby prints.

I just made my first diaper bag and was trying to think of something to put in the bottom for more support! I love your idea of the plastic canvas! I also agree with some of the others about the fabric choices - the young moms seems to like more "designer" fabric than baby fabric, so they look more like a tote bag or purse than a diaper bag.

well here is an idea for the bottom i was using plastic canvas in the bottom of my purses and it just didn't seem sturdy enough so off to lowes i went and found in there remnant bin a piece of vinyl flooring about 24 in wide not sure how long it was marked like $18 the guy marked it down for me to $5 i told him sold i have already used it for the bottom of a big pin cushion on top of a basket lid for the sil and for the purses i make a little pillow case and slide in the flooring then you can just take it out when you want to wash it seems to be working quite well so far.

I use a pattern called Pocket Parade, it's by the same designer as the Bow Tucks Tote
