Did you know?

I decided the other day that I needed to buy more daylight light bulbs so I happened to be in Walmart and saw a 4 pack of these daylight LED bulbs and thought I would give it a try. Wow is all I can say it lit up my work area like you wouldn't believe. It was rainy and dreary out all day yesterday but it was brilliant over my sewing studio! Just wanted to share by the way I only paid about $6 for the pack.

LEDs have come a long way - They are bright and run on very little electricity! All the fixtures in my sewing room (and I have 11 I think) now have LED Daylight bulbs in them replacing the CFLs that had been in there. Glad you found them!! I love them - some of mine came from Walmart and the spots over my Midarm came from Sams Club.

Thanks for the price tip - I replaced my hallway lights but should definitely change several room lights.

Yes - thanks for the info - I have to change and adjust the lighting in our basement which is my sewing room.

nativetexan 01-24-2017 08:02 AM

yes, i bought daylight bulbs and they were bluish. hated that. my son loves LED's so i have some of those in the ceiling light and am using a small bendable desk light with led in it. it is behind my machine. helps a lot.

I, too am excited to see how these led lights work...just joined the Massdrop order for the Stella light. I saw a comment here the other day about it....so jumped on the savings today....I need all the lighting I can get these days.

can you provide the specific product info?
there are so many bulbs on the market ...

Every light in my house and outside is LED. Don't have to worry if they are turned off or not. In fact the bulbs long life is if they are turned on and left on. Not turned off and on. Little heat and very little power is used. We use the 75 or 100 equivalent LED bulbs the 60 watt equivalent is not as bright. I replaced my sewing machine bulbs with the LED bulbs too.

Oh check the size of the bulb, some of the same wattage will be bigger then others. May not fit inside fixtures especially ones that are close to the ceiling, or lamp harps. Some are dimmable some are not. The LED 3 way comes on backwards from regular bulbs. It lights up the highest and turns to the lowest. We have had one outside 100 watt bulb in our outside lamp post and it's been on 24/7 for six years now. I buy all brands because the the physical size of that brand may be the size I need.

My dear hubby just finished installing new fixtures in my 16 ft. x 16 ft. sewing room. We installed a total of 8 - 2 - 4 ft. LED light fixtures that we bought at Costco on sale for $19.99 each. The configuration is in a square and the ceiling fan with lights in it are in the center. My DH shortened the cords to really short so that fixtures could be plugged into each other. There are four each plugged into each other. Then, he wired them into the wiring where the ceiling fan is. My sewing room is wonderfully light now! A while back, I had him install two LED 2 - 4 ft. fixtures in my sewing room closet that is 8 ft. 14 ft. We bought those at Home Depot and paid $120 each! Wow, I could have installed all of them for the price of the two from HD! I'm as happy as a lark!

I've replaced the regular bulbs on my front porch with daylight LED's and WOW. I don't remember the brand. I live in the middle of no-where, no other lights around, just woods to the front, back and south side, and a valley to the north. When I come up the road from the valley I can see my porch well lit from 1/4 mile away. Welcoming!!

A friend of mine installed the Phillips Hue lights in some rooms in her house. These are the "smart lights" that when purchased in combination with the "bridge" and a free smart-phone ap, you can control your lights from the bridge, or from your smart phone - including dimming lights. My friend programs some lights to turn on 10 minutes before she arrives home, other lights to go on-off when they are out, but most of all ... she programmed her bedroom light to start at a low dim then gradually rise to full brightness over a period of time as a "sunrise simulator". She used to have a "sunrise simulator" alarm clock but it broke - instead of replacing that, she went with the Phillips Hue system. You can even change the color of the bulbs!!

The starter kits (bridge and 3 bulbs) are $200, a dimming device is $35, and the individual bulbs are $30.00 ea. Very pricey start up cost, but if they last a lifetime ... might be looking into as there are so many more things you can do with them.

My ceiling fan has GU-24 CFL bulbs in it (that's the type of bulb that, instead of screwing in like regular bulbs, they have 2 little prongs on them). I want to change them out to LED's. I called FEIT and was told the equivalent bulb would need to be 75 watt, but so far in all my research, I cannot find a GU-24 LED 75 watt equivalent bulb! The representative told me the 60 watt bulbs would not be as bright as what I have...so I'm in a dilemma trying to find them. And, like One-by-One stated, these bulbs are compact, about 4 to 4 1/2 inches long, so that has to be taken into consideration as well or they won't fit inside of the fan globe. If anyone knows where I could find bulbs, please let me know because the CFL's put out a yellowish tint, whereas the LED's light fixtures we installed on the ceiling are white.

Onebyone 01-25-2017 03:03 PM

A decorator trick is to use one regular light bulb with a LED bulb in a two or more bulb fixture to keep the light soft but still bright.

quilts4charity 01-25-2017 03:36 PM

Yep, I've been replacing all my bulbs with the LED they are awesome for these old eyes!!!

Since the CFL's are giving yellowish light, you might not notice the difference if you go to a lesser-wattage LED. The whiter light often seems brighter, even when it is a slightly lower watt equivalent. If you can find ones that fit the fixture, I would buy them; you can always return them if they turn out to be too dim.

Ariannaquilts 01-25-2017 04:32 PM

The bulbs I purchased are the Walmart brand, it just says daylight LED non dimmable on the box. They also have the dimming type but I didn't need those so 4 in a box for about 6 bucks. They also have the GE brand but everything was about the same except price. They remind me of the Ott light how you can see color or just white so much clearer. I put them in my chandelier so it really brightens the whole room. BTW forgot to mention that the watts I bought are the 60 or whatever is the equivalent.

BETTY62 01-25-2017 07:02 PM

Thanks for the info. I'll be getting LED bulbs on my next trip to the store.

citruscountyquilter 01-26-2017 05:23 AM

LED has come a long way. I had a desk lamp that was LED years ago and it was wimpy light. The LEDs of today are fantastic. We had some early LED Christmas lights that gave off a bluish tinge and I didn't care for those but the ones they have now are bright white. With a live tree we love them because they don't generate heat to dry the tree out. They also make a big difference in our electric bill at Christmas since I'm married to Mr. Christmas who has to have tons and tons of Christmas lights going.

Thanks for the tip about the light bulbs. I am changing out mine as they burn out.
Last year I had 3 SolaTubes installed, 2 in my den and 1 in a bathroom - the natural light coming in is wonderful. And these lights will help continue that during the evening/night.

salederer 01-26-2017 07:31 AM

My husband got me a led shop light for over my work area and I'm with you, WOW. No comparison to the lighting I had previously.

maviskw 01-26-2017 09:26 AM

My experience with LED bulbs is that they get dimmer over time. But Onebyone says they have been on 24/7 for six years; then I remembered that the bulbs I had were only in flashlights. Maybe they work better on a socket. I'll have to try.

crafty pat 01-26-2017 11:26 AM

I have them in my celling fan and three light pole lamp over my sewing area. They are wonderful I don't know how I ever got along without them. I am replacing all my bulbs with them as the old ones burn out.

Dakota Rose 01-26-2017 12:02 PM

I changed out the bathroom vanity lights and can't believe how many wrinkles I now have! I wouldn't want to change back. Because of the low heat factor I could put in 100w to replace 60w and it really made a difference.
