A while back I had a machine that would go for about 10 seconds then growl. Here is where you need to oil and make the oil run in good.

As far as the motor goes you need to put a drop of oil as close to the shaft as you can - my arrow is a little farther out than I wanted. Then turn that shaft until it feels nice and frisky. Don't go crazy with too much oil.
Then put the motor back in and grease the gear in the red oval - a thin line of grease the size of a kite string will do the job.

Thanks, Miriam. I stumbled on this thread while looking for tutorial on the controllers. I didn't find the info I was looking for, but this info is good.

I have a 401 that I don't think I ever got totally clean/ungunked. There is a 403 on CL that's been for sale for a while. I believe I'll give that guy a call.
