different batting idea
 

I found a very clean white blanket at a thrift shop. It was like the kind they have at hospitals that have weight but are actually sort of thin. It seemed like it would make great quilt batting. I made a quilt with it and just used big blocks and not much quilting in the block. Im wondering if this will be ok? I dont think the blanket will bunch since its not traditional batting. So do I need to quilt more in the block or am I ok?

I don't see any issue with using it as a batting. I used to use blankets alot for battings. AS for the quilting , since the fibers in those type blankets are woven fibers , the quilting distance is not so much of an issue. The weight of the blanket is the biggest concern for how far apart to quilt it ... as a general rule I like to quilt ( those that have blankets for batting) no further than about 5 inches apart.

My only thought is - would it take a long time to dry?

Many things used to be used as the 'middle layer' in quilts. the blanket - if it's flat - should be just fine.

(The reason for the 'if it's flat' comment - a friend of mine was being overly frugal - and tried to use a very warped/out of shape baby blanket for the middle layer of a quilt once. It did not work out well.)

I've used "used" fleece and microfiber blankets before. Worked great. Actually great for free motion as they don't shift. I think it's a great idea and also recycling something that might not be used otherwise.
