I attended a class a few months ago on a lap quilting, or quilt by the block, method that was different. It was made with the backing maybe 3 in. larger than the top and a strip sewn on the top and quilted as you go. the difference was when you are finished you didn't have handwork on the backing to do. It was already sewn together. The instructor created this method herself. I lost the notes I took. Has anyone ever done anything like this? Would love to use this. She used it with strip piecing in the blocks but it could be used for any kind of block.

Yes, I think I saw something similar on Eleanor Burns program. Let us know how it works for you.

I would love to let you know but I can't remember how it was done. I am needing someone to remind me. Old age has definitely set in. :}

Sounds like Fun and Done could be adapted to this. No hand sewing.

Bayside quilting has a patented method:

Watch the video and see if you can adapt.

I took a class and the instructor covered both the "Fun & Done" and "Crazy short cuts".

If you watch the video that purplemem referred to, keep in mind that you do not need that special template. Just cut the backing 1" bigger on all 4 sides.

"Crazy Shortcuts" has a you tube video and a website. Basically, it is 2 slightly different methods of the same technique.

For some reason my computer and windows media will not open the video. It says URL is wrong. Not sure how to change it. The pic of the quilt looks like what the instructor was doing in the class I attended.. Now to figure out how to see the video.
