I am wanting to make a quilt out of my grandkids clothes that they have out grown. I need to know some different ways of doing this, without cutting there clothes up. Can anyone help me? Thank You.

I am sorry no one has come forward with some help for your original quilt idea. I am not certain I have ever seen or heard of a quilt make with the whole garment. I have seen quilts made from pieces cut from children's clothing, and that would not be difficult to do. But your idea is something that would seem to be similar to doing applique. That is the only way I could picture using whole garments.

Perhaps you could lay them out in a collage sort of fashion and maybe take photos of the effect you like. Then you could applique them on your background fabric (even a sheet) This is where the photos would come in handy, because moving pieces around could distort the design you had in mind.

It is a very novel idea and I am sure some help will come along after we are past the week-end. But I wanted to encourage you not to give up because the gals here are great about being helpful.

Hang on to your idea. It sounds great. Keep us posted as you figure out how to do this and be sure to take photos as you go.

Thank you, Barb. I spent 1/2 hour today looking for that quilt so I could post the link here. Thought I had lost it.......the quilt and my mind.

I made one when my kids were young. I took large squares and sewed outfits (pants and tops) to the squares, by just sewing the sides down. some squares I sewed pajamas onto. I sewed them so stuffed animals could be put into the clothes. .the kids had such fun putting stuffed animals into their blankets. then I backed it with a kid print sheet, no filler becuase it made it to heavy.

I would take apart your side seems so you get the front and back seperated. Using fusiable webbing (the lightest weight you can get), trace the the outline of the clothes onto the webbing, cut out your template. Apply the webbing onto your clothes. Make all blocks from another fabric, fuse your clothes onto those blocks-sew together.
