Dilemma concerning how to apply letters to my quilt
 

I need suggestions on what to do about the letters on this quilt. The lettering are right at 1 inch tall. I thought that I would free motion embroider them since I've successfully done smaller lettering that way. But when I try to do letters of this size it is messy.

I've considered applique, but they are so tiny. :( I thought some of you might have suggestions.

NOTE: I designed this quilt in EQ7. This quilt is intended for my pastor (an avid Arkansas Razorback fan) for his birthday.

The block is Arkansas Crossroads. The sentence is a ply on a Biblical scripture. As you can see I substituted the Bible book, chapter, and verse for my pastor's name and birthday.

The applique is in 3 layers. Black overlaid with red. Black and white details.

Sorry :( That sentence should say "lettering IS", instead of 'lettering ARE'. Sadly, I changed 'letters' to 'lettering' and forgot to change the verb.

I really like your design, EQ is the best. Have you thought of using wool felt for the letters?? With felt, there is not raw edge with applique. Trace letters onto fusible then fuse onto the wool felt, cut out and stitch them down. That is what I have used with lettering. Just a thought. Hope you find a solution soon.

If I were doing it before putting all the sections together I would fuse the letters in place with wonder under then go around them with a light zig zag or decrotive stitch.

I was thinking hand embroider them too. Or practice the free motion embroidery until it looks neater! Have you considered making the lettering larger so it would be easier to applique? One inch is pretty small. Your pattern looks great.

I use the method in this book: Fat Quarter Fonts. It's so easy and looks great. I have made letters as small as one inch and as large as 12 inches.
