It's okay if you reduce the power going to the foot control from the motor but not if you reduce the power going to the motor. You need a step down transformer. Any industrial journeyman electrician will know what you are talking about.

I use a dimmer cord on my stand alone bobbin winder. I get a consistent bobbin every time.
