It's okay if you reduce the power going to the foot control from the motor but not if you reduce the power going to the motor. You need a step down transformer. Any industrial journeyman electrician will know what you are talking about.

It is great for so many reasons..
You might want to check with an electrician. This kind of control might possibly damage your sewing machine motor. Just a thought.

I use a dimmer cord on my stand alone bobbin winder. I get a consistent bobbin every time.
