Disappearing 4 patch

1 Attachment(s)
Hello, after posting the picture to my "Garden of Gold" quilt, I had a lot of people ask how I made the block and what exactly I rotated to make it. So I put together a little image of what I did. Here is a rendition.

Usually (from what I have seen) the yellow and purple blocks are a solid and the other 2 are prints. I used a charm pack for the the prints, you can used charm packs for the solid too, but I just bought yardage and cut 5inch blocks from that. 2 charm packs of prints and the equivalent of 2 charm packs of solid (about 1.5yds) makes a throw, mine ended up being 53 inches by 62 inches or thereabouts.

If you notice on my 4 patch, I did NOT rotate the center small 4 patch. On the one by Missouri Star, she rotated the center 4 patch by 1 rotation.

Hope this helps everyone :)

The visual you posted is perfect , I am one of those who needs the "photo" , as words just don't get me there like an image does. Thanks ..much appreciated.

Could we see a picture of "your" quilt? If it was on here somewhere, I missed it.

I try and make one I like, than keep it separate to use as a visual to make sure they are all turned the same way. You would be surprised how easy it is to get one turned wrong!!

WMUTeach 04-11-2013 06:42 AM

Thank you for the visual. I have seen this before but never tried the pattern. I am encouraged to give it a try.

luvstoquilt301 04-11-2013 06:43 AM

yep that is how the center block didnt get rotated the first time :p however, I liked how it turned out so went with the flow

Never let the instructions get in the way of creativity!

Hey Carolyn, I guess I came in a little late on this one but I love your diagram. NEAT!! But question....after you sew the 4 blocks together, where do you cut them apart. I have done the disappearing 9 patch but that one you after sewing 9 blocks together, you just cut that in half horizontally and vertically.....but your 4 patch looks like it might be cut and inch or so to the right and left of the seam line. Is that right or did you divide it in thirds. Would love to try yours. Thanks, Sandrea

You cut 1in from the center lines.....the Missouri star quilt company has a youtube video on how to do the block. That is what I used for instructions. I just rotated differently, that is what the diagram is for :)
