This is the disappearing 9patch I just finished. I watched a youtube with Donna Jordan (Jordan Fabrics). As Ariannaquilts says, it is one of the easiest blocks to make. It can be made in so many variations.

Welcome from Texas! I really like all the "disappearing" type blocks & especially the D9P (disappearing 9 patch). How wonderful that you and your 4-H advisor have stayed such close friends all these years. That's a real testimony to true friendship!
Since you've received so much information from board members already I'll just say I'm glad you are here & we would love to see the quilt when you have it finished. |
DP9 patch is an easy pattern to make and I have seen tutorials on utube from Jordans Fabrics and Missouri Star Quilt Co. If you go to these web sites I think you will enjoy watching the way each one makes the blocks. very nice of you to want to make a quilt for a friend of many years. She will treasure your gift.

My first quilt was a d9p. I used a charm pack for the corners, white in between and a solid for the center. It was pretty good for a first quilt. The third one looked like a d9p, as well. However, I just sashed the 5" I Spy charms on two sides with a cornerstone. It was tons easier than making the nine patch, cutting it up, squaring it up, then sewing it together and squaring it up again. I didn't feel like I was doing the same thing over and over (I know, that makes no sense.). It was a lot easier for me to match the seams, too.

Thank you all for your amazing help and pictures of your beautiful quilts. I have one more block to do on my Christmas quilt, put it together, borders, back, then I will make this quilt. I can't wait to get started. You are all so kind!!
