When you do a DP9 patch, do you do all the blocks the same or do you vary them? I've purchased some really wild material for a baby's quilt I was just wondering what everyone does?

there are no rules here. You do what you think looks good.

Quilters choice!

After cutting them apart I try to arrange them so I only have to match up block seams and not a bunch of little ones. I use three Different colors. Make yours to suit yourself and you will like it better.

You can do it either way. If every block in the 9-patch is different (or even if every 9-patch is different), you get a very scrappy look.

I kind of like using a system. For example, every middle patch a dark red. That will be the small square in the quilt. I think it's also a good idea to use dark fabrics in the corners, light in the middle; just think it turns out nicer that way.

I'm not an expert on DP9, though!

Do a search here on DP9 and you will get lots of ideas. Also try a Google "images" search on DP9 -- there are tutes both here and online that will show how creating the 9-patch in a certain way affects the results in the quilt.

Why is it called a disapearing 9 patch?

When you sew the 9 blocks together in 3 rows of 3, then you turn around and cut that in half horizontally and vertically. It is no longer a 9 patch. It is now a 4 patch.

I varied, but the center peice was the same on all.

I used two charm packs, plus a few more fabrics. I did keep the center block consistant - a strong colored almost solid. It turns out to be the little block that ties the quilt together. I did have to sash mine because it got too busy for me. http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-90709-1.htm
Boxermom, that is beautiful.
