"Disappearing" designs
I've bought some precuts and got a few books that were fantastic and showed ways to use them. I went to YouTube to see what other people were doing and found that their is a new way called "disappearing" 9 patch, 6 patch, ect. However, I don't see a book that show how to use the different "disappearing" patches in different ways. YouTube had a lot of videos about it, but my computer is down stairs and my sewing machine is upstairs. I can't seem to remember how to make the disappearing patterns for each type. I forget when I go from my computer to the sewing room.
Has anyone found a book that has pictures about making patches "disappear"? |
Jenny Doan has a number of disappearing quilts on her Missouri Star Quilt Co. YouTube videos. There are others on YouTube but hers are the best in my opinion.

Brita Nelson has a WHOLE SERIES on disappearing blocks with different ways to create them, different layouts and 2-color, 3 color, scrappy variations. I think its a better foundation on the possibilities of Disappearing designs, and will give you better ideas than just one block. |
Thanks for the websites, but I'm looking for a book. There are so many ways to make a "disappearing" block that my memory fails me from the time I see the YouTube demo on my computer and then go upstairs to my quilting room to make it. Buying a lap top computer is not feasible. I guess with time, someone will make a book on this.

I hope that this doesn't sound critical, but all you really need is a pen and paper. Why not just make a sketch of the designs you like or print a paper copy of pictures of things you might want to try? Also, many of the videos have a link to their websites with written directions you could print out.

Have you checked your local library yet? Some libraries are willing to order new books if they don't have what you need.
(Just shooting out an idea here, nothing you probably haven't thought of.) |
Ha! I was looking through my collection of quilt photos...and there was this "Twisted Four Patch" which is just an older name for "Disappearing Four Patch!" I'm sure it wasn't made with precuts, the results are the same. Isn't there a saying..."Nothing old is new again?"

I enjoyed making this quilt. It works well with pre-cuts.
