I just finished a baby blanket and for the first time used Mountain Mist Cream Rose batting, I'm not big on the regular Mountain Mist but the cream rose is wonderful. It drapes beautifully, is soft and easy to work with. Just for your information.

Where did you purchase it? How far apart can it be quilted, and did you hand or machine quilt?

I just tried a regular Mountain Mist king sized batt and I shall not waste my money on it again. Years ago I bought it all the time and it was great, but now I don't care for it. I'm just glad that it went in a quilt for me instead of somebody else...

Never heard of it before, must be out of the loop or no one carries it in this area.

I found some at JoAnn's yesterday, I don't like any other of the Mountain Mist, just the cream rose and white rose, you can also find it if you google it but JoAnn's is cheaper with a coupon. I will try to find he website where I found it before I discovered it at JoAnns. It's a little more expensive than some but, I think, well worth it.

Okay, so I googled it and the place I found it is at "onlinefabricstore.net" never heard of it before but they are the only ones besides JoAnn's (not the website)only at the store. Good Luck!

The rose type of Mountain Mist is great, the other is just poor quality.

I've never heard of it either. What is special about it? Seems like there's a new type of batting on the market every week or so! I still have yet to use the silk batting I bought several years ago!

I will stick with warm and natural or warm and white another good one is quilters dream cotton wonderful battings no since in trying something different I never did like mountain mist

MY FAVORITE ALSO!!!!!! I don't use anything else at all. It is light, easy to work with and is warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Who could ask for anything more~~ Edie

I use it also and purchase it at JoAnn's when it is on sale. I ususally by the largest bat that I can afford and get multiple quilts out of it. I don't have any problems with either hand or machine quilting, but I do have to say that I have not experimented much with different types of batting. I has some others that were donated to me but they did not have any identifying information. I just used them to be frugal.

Mountain Mist is the only batting my great grandma would use. She has been gone more than 50 years so MM has been around for a very long time. I prefer Hobbs and yes, I too have a silk batting,have had it for a very long time, that I haven't used but now that I am back into quilting again am looking for the perfect pattern.

Thanks for the tip. My next project is a baby quilt and I'd like to try this batting. I usually use Quilter's Dream Puff because I like the puffiness, but this is no more expensive and I'll give it a try.

This topic is perfect timing for me since I decided to use one of the sev. rolls of Mountain Mist batting I've had for many yrs. I have a quilt top laid out on one since the quilt has no definite destination for now. After reading your opinions I hestitate to use it at all.
So do any of you use that batting & are ok with the results?

Am I the only one who likes wool batting? I love that it is so warm and it's puffier than 100% cotton. I just never hear anyone say anything about it.

I like wool batting for adults who I can trust to launder it carefully. I wouldn't use it in a baby quilt that needs frequent washing in hot water. I really like the warm and natural for baby quilts because it stands up to abuse so well. Washing, dragging on the floor, thrown on the grass as a playmat -it takes it.

I tried Mountain Mist rose cream for the first time last fall. Easy to work with, liked it alot. Previously used Hobbs 80/20. I like the MM rose cream better than the Hobbs 80/20. I really like Quilters Dream too.

I too really like Cream Rose or Cream white both are very nice battings, with wonderful drape.. I use it for summer quilts. It feels just a bit thinner than Hobbs 80/20 , and the Cream rose has no poly so it perfect for summer quilts or when no poly is important.

I recently used it for a baby quilt. It quilted nicely on my long arm but I had to use a double layer as I felt it was just too thin for my taste. I bet it would work great for hand quilting or someone who wants a low loft.

The "old Mountain Mist" polyester was made on 1850-60s equipment. It finally got so old that Mt. Mist either had to have specially built parts or get new equipment. They got new machines. This was in the late 1990s. The old poly batt had a surface on it like a had sprayed sugar coating (not really) that kept the batt in place and prevented bearding/movement. I've washed a quilt with that batt LOTS of times, and never had a problem. Anyway, their new batt was a different matter. My quilt was accepted by the International Quilt Festival in 1999. The batt bearded and looked as if it need a shave! I complained during Market and fabric and batt samples were sent to Mt. Mist R&D. They couldn't come up with any good answer for me. So I have never used it again. And the original poly batt was my favorite.
I'm glad to hear that their Cream Rose batting works well. As to quilting spacing, as with any cotton batt, I would keep quilting line 3 to 4 inches apart.--no more.
