Not a great picture, but it is a picture. It is already faded in places, but overall still very bright.

Wow, that's a beauty!!! I know the design but the name won't come to me!

What a lovely heirloom...I think it's a Boston Commons.

Very pretty.

Beautiful quilt. Lots of hours spent stitching those little squares.

I have a quilt from the 1860's to which I hand stitched a muslin band with 2" wide hook side Velcro sewn to it. The loop side of the Velcro went on a muslin covered lath fastened to the wall. Easy to put up and take down. By putting a band with Velcro on each end, I could turn the quilt to even out which part held the weight. I displayed it that way for 30 years, until we moved -- haven't got it up here yet.

a friend that collects and helps others preserve antique quilts recommends that when you can not lay out flatt, that you fold over and place over a chair, etc. She also recommends that you remember to fold differently about every 3 months (so creases don't get permanent and tear)and put in room that doesn't get direct sunlight. nice quilt!

Gorgeous quilt.... Think of the hours in that thing...amazing..
quiltingshorttimer.....I didn't know that. Looks like I'll be going through the trunk tomorrow and refolding. I think the last time I took them out was a few months ago to show someone the quilts. I'm glad to know this. Thank you! |

Oh, my! That is gorgeous. I'd put it on a bed and use it since you seem to be the last of the family. Whoever ends up with that quilt won't enjoy it as much as you do. Plus, you know its' story. Can you put it in a room to shut the door for the kitties, such as a guest room bed? Mine likes to sleep on my bed so I just use a fur picker-upper and go with the flow. I enjoy both my quilts and the cat. That's what life is all about.
