Sometimes I find fabric that has a diagonal stripe coordinating fabric. I LOVE how these look as binding. And, sometimes I take 5 inch pieces of the fabric that's inside the quilt, sew them together in a long sequence and use that for my binding. I like for the binding to be different from the border it's next to. Gives it some extra Pizazz!

I don't match my borders and binding. It is a personal preference. There are no quilt police.

Mine are never matched, however, I do try to use colors that compliment one another.

I have been making scrappy bindings and backings for the quilts that I make. My quilts look good that way.

I have no rules on that I sometimes match them and other time use different colors depends on what I want.

I love bindings that are not used in the quilt but pull out the colors used in the quilt and borders. No rules here!

That is totally up to you. The binding is, or can be, a part of the total quilt pattern. I often use it for an additional point of contrast. Other times, I just use the same fabric as the border. In the case of a batik border, I may match the color with a fabric that is not as tightly woven. Many of my friends make scrappy bindings, often from the fabrics in the body of the quilt. The effect is good, but by the time I get to the binding, I generally don't want to add to my work.

Mine rarely match and I usually dont' pick the binding until the whole quilt is quilted and I'm ready to apply it! It seems that when I DO make it ahead of time, I ALWAYS put it in a safe place* (code word for LOST!) Try 'auditioning' a couple different fabrics and see which one you DON"T like..and which one you REALLY like. I'm often surprised at what I end up with...many times VERY different that what I started out with!
