I would follow the directions on the batting.

It is a 3d rail fence (i got the pattern at: www.thequiltedsnail.com/patterns/3D-Quilt.html

the batting is 80/20 and recommended quilting distance 2"-4" apart. So, I guess I will have to quilt through the 6 inch blocks. Thank you everyone for your replies.

You could all so do three or four bar ties per sq. You could all so do a decorative stitch in each sq. I have seen X and O in the blocks for hugs and kisses. A heart thrown in on some of the blocks. There is much to do good luck.
