I have used fleece without batting for several kids quilts. They are so soft and flexible after being quilted with my long arm.

Here in south Texas it doesn't get that cold, in fact hardly ever. I'm making a quilt and putting fleece as the backing. Would it quilt up ok without batting? I've never skipped batting before.

Hi, I have used polar fleece for batting/backing on a knee rug for an elderly friend in a retirement village. It was not too heavy or hot as the place was air conditioned plus because she dropped food on it the rug went through the commercial washing machine and came out good as new. fayby

I made a Summer Quilt with no batting and later wished I had. The long armer told me it would have been easier to quilt had I had even a sheet in the middle. There would have been no weight or warmth, but easier to quilt. We use the quilt anyway. Mariah.

OK I quilted it with just the fleece and quilt top. Looks good, still need to bind it then I can post a pic. Thanks for all your comments.

What a perfect answer for backing up quilts for my family in Florida!! Thank you!!

Do you quilt it from the front or the back when you use fleece?
Do you exclusively work with feed dogs down? Can you use the fleece like Minky which has a kind of nap to it? Appreciate hearing your experience thanks! |
I live in Nevada and like cool quilts as well. What I use for batting is Bird's Eye Diaper cloth, which is cheap and can be found at: http://www.fabric.com/SearchResults2...3-26a376046a5ee
Sometimes I use fleece as the actual backing, and sometimes just quilting cloth. What the Diaper cloth does as batting is it allows the quilt to breathe, gives "body" to the quilt, and prevents your piecing from showing through on the top. I love it! I learned to do this when I lived in England, and trust me, everyone uses diaper cloth for everything over there! |
My family loves quilts with fleece combination batting/backing. So quick and easy too!
