Do I stitch the prairie points closed

I am just finishing a cute little baby quilt that has 5 inch squares made into prairie points. I am thinking that leaving that one edge open will collect yucky lint and such over time and I think that I should stitch them closed. It doesn't say to do this in the instructions. Do you stitch prairie points closed?

Prairie points are not sewn closed. That is part of their charm. I doubt that they would collect lint-or anything else that will not go away as the quilt is washed. Prairie points make a really cute finish for a baby quilt. I hope you will post a picture when you finish the quilt.

I have never stitched Prairie points closed. They are just fine.

i had wondered that the first time i made them. then i realized that they tuck inside each other along the row, so they can't really be stitched closed.

I have a few vintage quilts with prairie points and they are not sewn down. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Thanks all, that's great! I really wasn't sure how to handle these.
It's a simple little quilt and darned cute to boot so I really didn't want to mess it up. I'll be sure and post a picture when I finish it.

I have used large prairie points and I think those need to be tacked down at the tips. Once folded they get messed up and won't lay flat. For the size used around the edges are smaller and okay. Just make sure to take out any straight pins you may use. Ask me how I know. They aren't easy to take out once sewn in.

I've added prairie points several times over the years to quilts. never once have I even thought of closing them nor would I want to. A baby quilt is going to be washed often...don't worry about "yuckies" getting in the points.
