Do I use interfacing?
Good Morning Everyone!
I am making my mother a quilted tablecloth using this pattern (http://www.unitednotions.com/fp_freebird.pdf) I'm not using quite so many fabrics though lol. What I was wondering is: do I need to use interfacing with this pattern? I was just going to make the topper and quilt it to a backing, but now I'm wondering if I need something more. Thanks for all of the input! |
I suggest using a very thin batt like Warm and Natural. That would give it a bit of stability.

I really like that pattern and had a friend do a similar pattern and she had problems with the narrowing of the wedges-wasn't accurate enough with seam allowances and the topper didn't lay flat. I would not use interfacing but would use flannel instead of batting just to give the seams a little padding.

I would make sure that all the components are shrunk before cutting anything.
I don't think the puckered look works well with tablecloths. |
I would preshrink flannel (wash and dry twice) and use that as the batting.

Did you buy a 9* ruler for your project?
|
No, you wouldn't need to use interfacing. If you really wanted an inner layer, maybe just a layer of flannel? Something lightweight so it stays soft, doesn't get stiffl
