Do quilt patterns (the idea and design) disappear over time as people stop using that idea and design and move on to others?

For those of us who have old quilts to compare the quilt's pattern with todays quilt patterns :
Do you see the same basic quilt patterns (idea and design) we see today?
Have you been able to identify your quilts pattern?

I wouldn't use the word "disappear". Maybe go out of style to be brought back as new in a few years. The same can be said about fashion, music, and many other things. When it comes to a quilting pattern, as long as the instructions are written somewhere or the pattern can be made out again, it will eventually come back.

LOL, quilt patterns are like Madonna and Cher----they get face lifts, tummy tucks and re-invent themselves with every passing generation, sometimes they're like the Artist Formerly Known as Prince and Now Known as Prince Again, they just come back under a new name.

Yes, that was well said. Even dog breeds get popular for a few years and then others come up the list.

I love seeing the new twists and turns that are being applied to the old stand bys, it makes me look at them in a fresh, new way. Sometimes just seeing them made in a new geometric fabric or a new poplular color combo, makes the old pattern look modern and new :D:D:D

It is fun to see the new interpretations of a pattern. For instance, a log cabin can be traditional, skewed, off balance, etc. So many ways to interpret one pattern.

so many different patterns and I am sure they come and go, but I still enjoy the old old patterns
