doesn't every family have at least one?

So far, yes. I'm still rather new to quilting and that probably explains it. I want to make all my family members a quilt. In the meantime, people keep getting married and having babies and of course they have to have a quilt. Then, there is the quilt guild I just joined and the charity quilts. How about the special friend you just have to honor? Can you believe I have never made a quilt yet for me???? I think I need a time-out for me, LOL.

AH YES, the curse of life. lol

I had an accident with one of my quilts (used MIL hand-me-down fabric and the indigo bled and bled and bled.....) It was no longer the pristine gift I had intended. Only DH got a BIG smile on his face because FINALLY he got a quilt. (As long as it doesn't come in contact with anything white, I think we're safe - lol)

I will let you in on a secret.....it will probably happen to you...eventually....the quilt bug will bite... you will find a pattern that you simply must do...fabrics that you must buy for it that do not "go" with anyone's decor...and you will have no idea of where it will call home

I make totally planned quilts but I also have several started that are just because I like the pattern and the fabric that called out to go play with it

I was thinking the same thing. It started as just planned projects, by morphed into more as I learned and wanted to learn. Now it is out of control. I have stashes, starts, WIP'S, supplies, machines, I need a bigger room. Heck I need a bigger house!!!!

No Way... I buy fabric because I love it, the same for a kit if I find one that calls to me. When the mood strikes me to work with that particular one - out it comes from the stash and project is born.
I make quilts because I want to and love the feeling of taking a piece of fabric and turning it into something like a blank canvas and a painting.

If I choose to give it away or donate I will, or I may enjoy it myself. Years ago I used to sell my things at various craft shows. I no longer do that and do not do commissions any longer. This is my hobby and I do it my way because I want to..

I am so guilty of this!

Seeing as most of my quilts are now designed for show, even if they are made for a particular person, that person understands that they probably won't actually receive the quilt for 2 more years after the quilt is actually finished.

Talk about sitting on tenterhooks for a gift!
