Do you always label your quilts?

I do pretty good at getting all of the projects I start finished right up to the binding, so I don't have too many UFOs. I note the date it got finished for the label but unless it's a gift for someone else I don't always get a label done.

I always say I'm going to work on labels and get caught up but...there's always another quilt I want to start immediately so I put it off. I just can't seem to get motivated with this. How about you? Do you always get labels on your quilts right away?

I didn't used to label my quilts until a special one I made for DGS was stolen. Now all of my quilts have a label, as well as the recipients name sewn under the binding.

stolen, how horrible. I usually do. Some are as intricate as the block on the front. some basic just the date and my name

If you have difficulty with labels, keep it simple and buy one of the preprinted label panels. I cut the labels apart, stitch stabilizer to fit, sew the stabilizer to the label, right sides together all around, slash the stabilizer with a cut wide enough to turn the label inside out encasing all the edges. I poke out the corners carefully, press the label and stick it in my label drawer, often preparing a bunch at a time. When I need a label, I grab an already prepared one, and print the information on it with a black or blue Pigma pen and stitch it on with my machine using invisible clear thread. You can't see the thread, it's securely attached and the label didn't take much time.

Fabulous! I'm not sure I've seen a pre-printed label panel?? I've seen nice expensive ones on Etsy, which I've considered buying...

I usually don't make a label unless I am giving the quilt as a gift, or I am donating it to a good cause. Then I usually make a label on my embroidery machine, back it with Steam A Seam II and iron it on the back of the quilt.

My sewing machine has an alphabet so what I used to do, before I got an embroidery machine, was either embroider on a block or on the back of the quilt before I put it together. I'd embroider something like "Made by LesLee 2014".

Two years ago I received a quilt I had made for a friend. She had passed and wanted me to have the quilt as a remembrance. It had been well used and I was so happy to see that I had embroidered "Made for Mary with Love by LesLee 2000" on it.

Yes, I always label my quilts & I find it fun to go back later & remember when I made them or who made them for me.

One thing I read about making labels is to include your maiden name so if it is a family quilt they know what side of the family it comes from. For me who took my dh's name 37 years ago I thought this was a good idea. It is the only place I use my maiden name.

I didn't label my quilts i til we found some that my mothe and grandmother had made. It would have been nice to know when they were made. So, I decided to label all my quilts. All mine are gifts anyway, so no problem with them being in the way.
