I buy fabric whenever I see it cheap. Sometimes, this means the prints are dated or just ugly, or the colors are dated, but the quality is good. Other times, I dye just to get certain effects or because I can't find exactly what I want. Dyeing results can be quite unexpected - sometimes prettier than you expect, sometimes not.

How do you do it? |
This site has some good tutorials
http://www.pburch.net/dyeing.shtml I work outside, using dish pand from the dollar store. I squish up the fabrics, let one colr settle in, then add another if I want. I use the Low Water Immersion Dyeing method, where you add the soda ash last, so the colrs form more gradations of color. |
If I am using Rit dye to evenly cover a fabric, I just follow directions on the box. If I'm doing something more artistic, I like procion dyes. You can layer them and get some great effects.
