I like a lot of different types of quilt. I prefer to work on modern quilt designs and fabrics most of the time. I enjoy doing simple little panel quilts for project linus as well. I love some traditional patterns like irish chain and dresden plates. I think the unifying factor in quilts I prefer is lots of restful space for the eye. 1930's style quilts also seem to appeal to me for this reason.

The only quilts I don't tend to love are super traditional applique quilts and civil war repro quilts. I am not an earth tones kinda gal though so I think that plays a big part in why I'm not drawn to those.

Fascinating topic...and I also love the beauty and expertise that goes into traditional quilts. But lacking that talent, I turned to crazy quilts and found my niche! There is no right or wrong, no rules to follow...all creativity is good! I am partial to traditional quilts but every now and then I get a wild hair and do something completely out of my comfort zone, usually as a gift for someone who likes to walk on the wild side. Quilt making is a do your own thing!!

I also prefer contemporary quilts to the traditionals. There is a new book out called "City Quilts" which is dedicated to contemporary only. It really has some beauties in it!

I'm not big into traditional, have never made one, don't know if I ever will BUT as I've often said before, if someone wants to give me a traditional quilt I will accept it with a huge Thank YOU and an even bigger smile.

BJ SewKkrazzy ... love your crazy quilt block! I've never made one and yours is making me itch to try it. I've done crumb blocks and this looks along the same line but with prettier fabrics and lots of embellishments and decorative stitches. Just Lovely

I am glad to hear your opinion on traditional quilting. I, too, began with traditional style 25 years ago. I found that about 5 years ago it was becoming boring. Then I experimented with bright colors and wonky patterns and my quilting enjoyment returned. I guess it is never too late to teach an 'old dog' new quilting techniques.
