I do a rough calculation on how much of each fabric I will need for the pieces I want. I buy extra if I want wide borders and cut those first so I don't need to seam them. I over buy and use up the extra on the back if needed. I do not cut all my pieces before starting to sew. I cut a bit, sew a bit and repeat. To much of one task is boring and to hard on my body.
