I take patterns as a starting point and work from there. There are no mistakes, only design decisions.

Almost every project, in one way or another. I hope to post the results of a wing in the next couple of weeks!

I either make my own pattern or change other patterns to suit what I am trying to make. I find that process to be a lot of the fun in making a quilt.

Frequently. I combine or change things and add as I go as an example see my post: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-111001-1.htm

All the time! Almost every quilt, I change something, IF I am following a pattern.

I thought this was the only way to quilt

ditto

Is there another way? I have never followed the pattern to the letter. I use it as a guide, mostly I see something I like and then improve on it for my taste.

Hello

That is exactly what I am doing now, and what I did for the last quilt that I made!
