Ok...so I'm now pre-washing every piece of fabric that comes in the door. I've done this off and on for years and have a good stash. The puzzling thing for me is now how to tell if it's all pre-washed? I don't cherish the idea of having this same question come up in the future. I now wash, dry, iron and neatly fold or put fabrics on a bolt keeper. What I've changed is that I now put a small quilting (basting) pin at the edge of the fabric. (I think worth the investment (purchase pins on sale in lg container with 50% off coupon from JoAnns or where every you can. I can easily tell now if it's been washed without a problem. Do you have a better idea?

I don't put fabric in my stash till it IS washed. No question then!

I've heard you snip the edge at a diagonal on both sides by selvage, it then isn't to ravel as much in washer plus you can see it and know it's been washed Hope this helps but must remember after using some must resnip //edges:):)

Ditto. It stays in the laundry room until it is washed.

I serge the edge of most of my fabrics, then wash them. So if the edge of fabric has been serged, then it's been washed. That's how I tell.

Mine doesn't get put away until it's washed. I cut the corners with pinking sheers before washing and then I know that something hasn't slipped through somehow.

I do what you do: put a small safety pin in the corner.

I just wash everything before it goes into stash then I never have to think about it.

clip the edge of the selvedage. will identify it as being washed and will help in revelling.

If only I had a serger!
