My friend and I are making tree skirts for ourselves and family members this year... I have found a few tutorials online and very few in books...

Do you have a favorite pattern/tutorial? If so where can I find it?? I'd love to see what others have picked out or done that they have liked!

I love this site, they even have other ideas for tree skirts and other projects, they use embroidery on it but I am sure that you can substitute different things if you don't have the capabilities.

That is pretty cute. It would be easy to change the blocks to applique.

Same site, different skirt.

There is a log cabin star tree skirt that is similar to the Emblibrary one. I'm still not sure which one we are going to do... sounds like we are going to be winging it though at this point.. there are a few that we like - and we can't decide.

I'm working on this tree skirt here:

I think the fabrics are a bit...dreadful, so I picked new ones. The skirt size itself is a bit small, too (only 46"), so I'm adding more rows to it to make it bigger. I'll post pictures when I'm done.

This is a free pattern download from Northcott (download link is on the right side of page), shows two colorways:

Might be hard to quilt, I did it the easy way to start with.

Many years ago we were square dancers, me with the full, full
skirts with masses of sparkling zig zags on it. When we quit
I still had several, so cut each skirt in two, hemmed them and put snaps on them, and lightly quilted them with muslin backing, no inner batting.

Family who got them as presents loved them!! I still have one of them left for myself...somewhere in my stash!!

This is one called "Pieces of Whimsey"...sorry, this is the only photo I had of it here on my PC. It was from a magazine a couple years ago. If interested, I can look up the particulars.
I like geometrics!

I used pre-quilted white material and machine embroidered Christmas designes on the skirt and used boughten biased tape for the center hole and the outside edge. I then made matching stockings with the same color cuff on the top with each persons name on the stocking. It was a lot of work but well worth the outcome. My families just love them. EllenK
