Do you have this pattern-is it constructed like the Summer in the Park Quilt?
 

I really want to make this quilt http://www.craftsy.com/supplies/rain...ixef&_ctp=3173 but the pattern is not sold separate from the fabric (it is priced with a 90 fat quarter set so it is quite spendy). While I would love, love to have the fat quarter set, I have more than 3 times as many FQ's in batiks and regular cotton as I am somewhat of a fanatic for rainbow colors.

I was wondering if the pattern instructions have you construct the HST blocks in a manner similar to the ones used in the Summer in the Park quilt (http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=...ed=0CCsQ9QEwAA)

How does this method turn out? I know it ends up with bias edges so that is my only real concern.

What a beautiful quilt! It appears that some of the triangles have 3 strips of color and some have only 2. It doesn't matter but I assume you want to be consistent. It looks like triangles cut from several strips of color. You could also add a strip of white fabric and then cut squares using the 45 degree line along the seam line between the color and white triangles.

IrishNY, thank you for pointing that out. I in fact have that ruler and I think I have that book as well but have not used them yet. I'll have to dig them out. It does look like they made a number of different strip sets for the color side--some with 2 different colors and some with 3 and the widths vary as well. Really, you could mix it up quite a bit. Thanks for the reminder. I have so many batiks in the whole range of the rainbow that I am always trying to come up with good ideas on how to use them.

It is a gorgeous quilt kit! I just looks like it's made from varying widths of strips sewn into sets, then cut into triangles and sewn to white triangles. The strips sets are like the Summer in the Park quilt. It would actually go together quicker because you wouldn't be matching all the seams. If you starch your fabrics, you won't have such a hard time with the bias.

I would make the strip sets, cut into squares, pair with solid colored squares (plain white in the example) of the same size and make HST's. No bias, and you can make the HST's whatever size you want. Then just place them in the chevron pattern and sew the squares together. It does make a pretty quilt.

Are the fossil ferns the line that is shiny? I'm trying to remember. I bought a piece of whatever line that is, once, and couldn't get it to look right with the regular fabrics. If they are shiny, that would really add to a quilt like this one.

Never mind. I just remembered. It's "fairy frost" that was shiny. I guess I got the alliteration right, at any rate. :)
