I know I do! I love the look of it...hate doing it. Do a bunch of it....swear I will never touch it again. Then I see another cool project and say just one more. Get in the middle of it and swear off of applique again. Do a bunch of regular piecing and start thinking applique wasnt that bad and look at all the cool things you can make. and Im back in the cycle again!
Im in the middle of a Stitcher's Garden class which I am taking to learn how to use all my feet on my machine. I love the fact that I learn how to use a twin needle, do pintucking, piping, flanges, FMQ, bobbin work, QAYG, yoyos and cording plus a whole bunch more. You have to make about 18 appliqued blocks as the basis for the class. I am 8 blocks into it and my love/hate relationship with applique is rearing its ugly head. If I had not paid in advance for the class which includes the fabric I would just go to class for the lesson and never make another applique square! |
Yes, but just think how pretty they'll be at the end of your classes, and then you can just put them away and forget them until the next time.
I'm a little that way with FMQ, and needleturn applique. Fusible by machine or hand is easy for me, and I really enjoy it, but needleturn, ahhh just getting cold shivers thinking about it. |
At least you are doing it!! That is more than I can say after spending 20$ for a applique pattern that just sits and sits. Keep up the good work and show pictures of your work!!

I have decided that raw edge is my BFF... Maybe I will try other needle turned methods again...someday :wink: :D:D:D |
Luckily this is all by machine. This is just steam a seam and then blanket or decorative stitched over it. I have done the kind where you turn it inside out and top stitch it. And I have satin stitched.
My assistant is going to have what will likely be her only grandchild and she is picking out a pattern. I will be giddy to make the baby quilt because the mother is 42 (eek!!) and they thought they would never have a baby. But I have told her if they pick applique, my assistant will have to do all the tracing and cutting or they will have to wait until I am in a "good" applique cycle. |

At least you are doing it , i love applique, but hate doing it, and i am really bad at it too lol. My first flower i did, had points lol.

I love sewing applique. I do it on the train during my commutes. The thing that annoys me the most is when I run out of pieces and have to spend an evening cutting out and marking. However, I love it when I can sit down and hand sew. I've gotten pretty good at threading a needle on a moving train.!
