Do you know this pattern?
1 Attachment(s)
My quilting friend purchased this lovely throw at a local show. It was made by a guild in 1993-94 and we're so impressed with the results of their combined effort. The label gives several names and says "Patchwork Place University." We would like to know how the pattern says to do the scallops and if it included templates.
The quilt seems to have had a sad history - no one wanted it so it was sold for way too little to get it to live somewhere else. It now has a home where it is loved. Like the quilt shown on Brian Williams' feature, I hope someone here recognizes it. Thanks. JudyB |
oh my goodness, isn't that pretty? no name though.
It is really beautiful! I'm no help but I'm happy it has found a good home.
I have no clue but it's beautiful and I love that 3D looking border!
It almost looks like a round robin...and that would probably mean there is no pattern. I used to have some of the border floral in my stash....gee, my stash is OLD! lol
I still have some of that boarder fabric. The scallops look like a template was used and they were appliqued on.
Agree with Soccertxi ... it looks like a round robin. None of the fabrics from the center or any of the border are repeated anywhere else, and it kind of lacks harmony (although separately each element is gorgeous!). So ... no "pattern". Each person would have pulled each element from a pattern they had *somewhere*.
I, also don't have a name, but that is a gorgeous quilt. I don't understand why no one would want it, but am glad it now has a happy home, where it will be loved.
I agree this may be a round robin; they were quite popular at that time.
Interesting note: The border fabric was a Concord Mills print that was so incredibly popular it was printed in 5-6 different colorways, including this blue, a maroon, a brown, a teal, a rust, maybe others. The original print was the brown/rust I believe, and its popularity was such that this print, used in every conceivable decor item for the bed, bath, and kitchen, saved the mill from going out of business. Heavens knows I did my part to keep it going in those days!:o Jan in VA |
And I have that border fabric in my bedroom decor that I got from JC Penney's ages ago. Still love it! And trust me when I tell you, trying to find a navy-white-burgundy combo is next to impossible anymore. But I do love that color combo. And this quilt is beautiful. Glad it found a happy home.

Beautiful quilt. Glad it has found a home where it will be loved :) As others have pointed out, it may be a Round Robin. Therefore, you can name it whatever you want to. How about *your name's* Beauty?, or Hearts at Home?

Check out the above link. It is a very similar look for the applique border. |
If you know it was made by quilt guild members, can you contact the guild? Maybe someone there will remember it.

Looks like a medallion quilt where each member does one round of his/ her own choosing.

I'm clueless as well, but that is a gorgeous quilt. I love the attic window effect around the border. I am certainly glad it found a loving home, and is no longer an orphan quilt. Thanks for sharing that beauty.
It is such a beautiful quilt with so much rich detail. Thanks for loving it and giving it a good home where it is appreciated.
It looks like a round robin quilt. Glad it has a good home.
OMG, I think it's gorgeous! Don't know the name of the pattern though.
No help with the name but that's one gorgeous quilt!
This quilt is stunning. Would love to have that in my collection.

Jan, you are amazing...............such a wealth of information. I always enjoy reading your posts.
that is stunning, I'm so happy it has found a rightful home. Again, it also tells that we should LABEL, LABEL, LABEL...at least you have some info on it.

Absolutely gorgeous, but I have no idea what the name of it is.
That very pretty, I guess that goes to show that whoever gets the quilt is meant to have it.
It looks familiar, although I can't pinpoint the name/names of the blocks. I might be wrong, but I don't think Patchwork Place University prints books any more. Regardless of my lack of a name, I am so happy that the quilt has come home to be enjoyed by someone who will love and appreciate it.

Thanks for the info, Grammybev. I'll bet some googling will turn up something helpful. I know the scallops look appliqued but up-close examination looks like they're machine-stitched. Did you make a quilt from that pattern? Very difficult? The majority of my quilts are donated to vets so I keep them pretty simple but like to make a new pattern each time.
How could anyone not love this quilt. It is just beautiful. No idea what the pattern is though.
Just the ribbon effect on this border would look great on a vet's quilt. A beautiful quilt all the way around.

My pattern calls for applique for the scallops and stars to connect the scallops where they have flowers. this was a wall hanging but can be made into a quilt . I was hand stitching the whole thing .since it was a reproduction block from the late 19th century quilt signed Jemena Ault . I have blocks made but haven't put it together yet .I kinda lost intrest in sewing for a while and trying to get myself motivated again.I found an address for Stitches Through Time ,101 South Lincolin Ave.,Moorestown New Jersey 08057 pattern was copyright 2006 maybe this will help. |
I wish I did know the name but it is just stunning! You have a real gem!
I, too, have the border fabric in 2 colorways.
Better late than never??? I just saw this thread while searching for another... I do know that scalloped border is in more than one of my vintage magazines and its appliqued to the white border strips. I recall that you adjust the scallops length to fit your specific border size and I think possibly the corners can be adjusted as well. If you haven't found it by now you can PM me and I'll look for it for you. Jan
