Do you know of a ruler/tool that helps with mitering borders?

I want to start mitering borders, but after reading the instructions in my quilting bible, I'm a little bit afraid to try.

I was wondering, as there are tools for everything, does anyone know of a tool for mitering borders that works well?

Thanks.

I just bought the Marti Mitchell Miter Ruler at Joann's...can't testify yet, still in wrapper but there is one.

...don't know about any tool that might help....just read each step, do it (. On a scrap,of course, first) and it will make sense as you do it. I like mitered corners, but only on fabric that has a pattern that "should be" or a striped piece, if it is just a busy, no direction type, I just do regular.....only work hard if you have to!

I wouldn't purchase any ruler/template for this as they aren't necessary. I know I wrote a tute for the QB a few years back. I am sure someone else had done something similar with pictures. Then browse YouTube if you want.

Mine have always come out perfect the way I do them.

It's really easy after the first time. I like to never figured it out from printed instructions though. Watch a video.

Watch this.

I watch it every time I miter borders. You'd think I might memorize it and not have to watch it, but I chicken out at the last minute and watch it again every time.

The angle for mitering a border is the same angle as a half or quarter square triangle.

All you need is a normal ruler with a 45 degree angle marked on it. I haven't looked at the tutes mentioned above but I'm sure between those and your standard ruler, you'll do just fine. It really isn't that difficult at all. Try with some paper; move on to scrap fabric if necessary as you work your way through the instructions. And leave lots of extra length on your borders - you'll need it!

I use my 12" square since it has the angle from corner to corner. I mark the fabric with pins and then fold on the pin line. After lining up the borders, I use the square to make sure. Then I sew it but I make sure it is correct before I do any cutting. Good luck.

There are many different tools used for mitering corners. Look at Nancys Notions, Keepsake Quilting catalogs, or check Amazon. I know I have seen them in all these places.
