I knw someone who uses the cloth tubes (can't remember what they are called) that you can get as a medical supply. She cuts them to the size she needs and because they stretch they fit over the spools nicely. She says it is much less expensive and she thinks it works better.

Would a bath scrubbie work?
|
In a pinch you can us panty hose cut to length. Or not in a pinch, but cheap :)....

You can order them directly from Superior Threads also. They are called Thread Nets.
|

Actually this dunce here always thought that the mesh covers were used to STORE the thread to keep it from causing loose thread webs all over the place. My face is red!
Still chuckling from the use of condoms.:D |
Spool thread holders

I instead use soda/water plastic bottles to control the thread of the spool. Works like a charm! Learned that couple years ago when I started going to a Tuesday night sew group in town.
Here is a photo of what I'm talking about. I have also used the smaller water/soda bottle for regular sized spool threads. I simply cut the bottle across at one of the seams usually about 1/4 or 1/3 up, put the spool of thread in than put the top piece on and overlap it with bottom piece and there you have it. When not in use I put the cap back on to keep it dust free. :) |
I've been sewing a long time and I never knew they made these. How neat!

I don't know what they are called, but I am looking for a netting cover to help control
the thread when it comes off the spool. Thank you Mary L Booth Mary, I live close by you! Just south of Arlington. Could not find a PM for you, so PM me & maybe we can meet up & sew together sometimes. Have a good weekend, LaQuita |

Dear Tothill, you have given alot of us a good laugh, I have tears running down my face from reading all the comments. Thank you and I will be laughing for days when I think of it. Makes me think of the joke about the old lady. Her minister came to call and when she went for coffee, he saw a bowl of oil with a condom in foil floating in it. He asked what she had that sitting on her panio for and she said she found it in the park. It said to use to preven disease and lubricate it. So she put it in a bowl and it had floated there all winter and she hadn't been sick once.

Yes, take apart a nylon bath scrubby! It's amazing what you can find to do with a tube of netting.

Hahaha. Here's a funny on me. I received an order I had placed and one of those was in the package. It was in a little plastic bag, so I knew it was placed there intentionally. But I had no idea what it was for! Well, now I do :)
