Do you make Crazy Quilts?
This is on my to do list to make a crazy quilt! |
I havent yet, but would like to. Penny

yes, I do. I have made several of them. They are very fun. I have one that I made out of neckties. It's pretty cool.
|
This is also on my list (#347 I think LOL) but I have a question for those that do make them: are all the block pieces cut the same or is each block made up of random shapes? I keep looking at pictures and the fabric in most blocks varies but I can't tell if the pieces are the same or different in each block. I love embellishing and think I'd really like to do this type quilt. Thanks.

The starting piece is usually 5 sided (five edges) and continue to add pieces.
|
I am doing a crazy patch at my LQS and each block is made up with different pieces. You can either "plan" the block with a foundation or just start with a central piece and add random pieces up to the size you want.

I want to also! There is a tutorial which I bookmarked called "Confusion". It's a way of crazy quilting and it looks fun and easy. Check it out!

We have a group we call "Crazy Q's" here. We have been meeting at the library once a month, lately some of us have been meeting in my salon every other Sunday afternoon for more time, once we finish our block, we pass it around for everyone to embellish. Some embellish with silk ribbons, some with buttons, some with their fancy machine stitches, some with beads, etc. They always come back looking fabulous. Anyone in Fort Myers Florida that would like to join us, PM me and let's make a date to "crazy quilt"
|
I just ordered a book on CQs - it's a great way to use the fancy stitches on the sewing machine.

I love crazy patchwork, mainly because of the freedom it gives
you, no complicated blocks to piece or corners and points to match up. You can either go really mad and use as many colourful bits of fabric as you have got, or go colour co-ordinated. The finished quilt or wall hanging can then be embellished with embroidery, sequins, buttons etc. |
Thank you all for that information, could someone post a link? if not no problem. thank you. Penny

I have seen two kinds of crazy quilts,
1) where the fabric is totally random sewen onto a muslin background 2) where the block is pieced using the same shapes in each block, which gives a sort of random look to it when you use many different fabrics. The other alternative to this is to use the same fabrics for each of the same pieces in the block for a much more controlled look. All are very effective in their own way. Gal |
I haven't yet, but I want too. They are so pretty.

I just started a thread in the link sections for crazy quilting as I found some cool things for us to look at
