Do you make Project Linus quilts?

I just found out that Quilting Treasures is going to be designing a collection for Project Linus. My sales rep called me today to tell me about it, and then I did a quick search online and found a blog post that tells a little more about it: http://www.blogs.fabshopnet.com/blog...project-linus/

If you want to see all of the fabrics follow this link: http://www.blogs.fabshopnet.com/blog...ojectLinus.jpg

I told the sales rep that most of the people I know, who do Project Linus quilts, are making them from donated fabrics or marked-down fabrics, not buying new. However, the two main fabrics from this collection are adorable! And the Snoopy designs are very cute too.

If you make Project Linus quilts, do you every buy new fabrics for them? Or do you have enough donated fabrics and/or stash to draw on?

Do you think that it's the Project Linus quilters who would buy this line? Or is it more likely to be folks who just like the Peanuts characters?

I do make quilts for Project Linus....mostly with donated fabric, or fabric from my stash.

The fabrics from Quilting Treasures are nice...especially the Linus fabric and the Snoopy one...but I do think the major buyers will be Peanuts lovers, not necessarily people making quilts for Project Linus.

These fabrics are sooo cute. I'll bet anyone who likes peanuts as well as Project Linus quiltmakers will buy it. I love these. I would prefer not to have the words "Project Linus" but that is just my own personal preference. There seems to be enough colors and patterns to use even without those particular fabrics. I am sure some people will like them.

I think your going to have more people buying because they like the characters and using it for personal quilts. Personally I plan on making Project Linus quilts from my stash.

Yes, I rarely purchase fabrics (other than what might be needed for filling in) for my charity quilts. However, I think this line of fabrics will be used by Linus blanketeers. Our chapter makes fabric postcards for thank you notes out of any fabric that has Linus on it, and this would be perfect! I can see chapters making banners or "poster quilts" out of the fabric for their presentations to groups.

In the past, when Project Linus has had a line of fabric designed for them, a small portion of the sales has been donated by the designer and/or manufacturer to the national headquarters of Project Linus. This sweetens the deal for quilters who want to support Linus even if they don't donate quilts. If some portion of this line's sales will be donated, then it is beneficial to have that fact noted at the store for potential buyers.

I make a lot of Project Linus quilts and use donated as well as purchased fabrics. The fabric is adorable. I agree, if we could buy it at a discount by showing our Project Linus name tag (like I do at my lqs), I'm sure more would use it. It would be adorable for backings on the quilts.

I can see many "peanuts" themed nurseries in the next few years. Nostalgic for the parents and visually pleasing & interesting for the babies. Peanuts characters & Dr. Seuss they never get old or out of style!

90% of my charity quilts come from donated and stash fabric.

That fabric would go into my Peanuts stash which is for me and my Goddaughter.

Quilting Treasures is going to be donating a portion of the proceeds to Project Linus.

Project Linus quilters usually are loosely associated in groups, aren't they? Do you think that offering a full-bolt-discount would be a good way to make the fabric more affordable to them? You see, I sell online, so it's not like I have the ability to "see" anyone's name tag. What I'm thinking is that a group could purchase a bolt and split it.

I agree. I don't care for those either. I think you could easily substitute solids or marbles or any small-scale "textures" for all of those.

I quilt for Project Linus, and I can't wait to get some of that fabric! I may make something for myself with it, though, lol. We did have some Linus fabric from way back that I found at a yard sale, and we had some "blanketeers" who would sew a small piece on the back of each quilt along with a label. It was a nice touch.

I like the big Linus pattern and the confetti coordinate best.

That fabric is so adorable, I definitely would buy some for my Project Linus quilts. Do you have it in your shop now, or are you ordering it?

Favorite Fabrics 03-07-2012 10:37 AM

I just ordered it today. Amazingly, Quilting Treasures already has it "in the works", meaning that they have already placed their order with the mill and delivery is supposed to be July. Usually QT doesn't place their order with the mill until after they have shown the artwork to stores and taken orders from them. So... I am grateful that my rep stopped by and took my order today!

I ordered a LOT (ten bolts!) of the main print on blue and at least one bolt of everything else *except* those ones that had the "Project Linus" words on them. My rep assures me that they will be able to fill my order out of that first delivery in July. You see, what has been lurking in the back of my mind is that if I don't get my order in right away, since QT has already ordered a fixed number of yards, all of us shops will be vying to get goods from the first delivery. (Yes, fabric buying can be COMPETITIVE!)

Willferg, I like your idea of sewing just a patch of Linus fabric on your quilts. You could easily do that with these fabrics, too! Just include one block...

And I think we can expect to see a LOT of advertising regarding this collection. In magazines, at Quilt Market, via e-mail from QT to all the Project Linus groups...

Looking forward to being able to purchase some. Will check with you in July. Thanks for letting me know.

Who knew that just ordering the fabric is Competitive...!? But I guess its like alot of things .. those that get to market first wins.
Love the fabric.. Who can resist any of the Peanuts characters?! Thanks for showing these.

What is Project Linus anyway? I've heard people talk about it, but I'm not exactly sure what it is. Do you make baby blankets or lap quilts or larger? Can you use just your fabric at home? And lastly, where do you send them?

Annie68 03-08-2012 09:47 AM

Jeanne, go here http://www.projectlinus.org/index.html to learn about Project Linus and find chapters in your area and where to send finished quilts.
