I actually like making t-shirt quilts. They are quilts with batting and backing and machine quilted on my midarm. I charge $20 per shirt, minimum $250. Additional charges for sashing or special designs. I am working on my 6th one...this for my adult daughter with t-shirts from her high school days. I won't charge her.

I like making them. I have made 5 - 4 for my neice so that means I have only gotten paid for one :) They bought all of the materials and paid me $200. I was happy with that. It ended up being full size quilt

I've made three. The last one was commissioned and personalized (twin-size). I was paid $500 plus expenses ($380~). And the same person asked me to make one for her son now - same deal.

I am so glad I didn't save any of my kids tee shirts.

I charge 9cent/square inch-includes everything except the t-shirts. I've made 12 and frankly don't find them all that fun! I find that customers usually think that because they provide the shirts, it won't cost much--but once you explain the stablizer, the sashing, fabric for borders, backing and bat, thread, quilting, and assembly labor, they are very involved. I've also had several potential customers say that it's too costly and they will go elsewhere--which is ok too, I've even given a referral or two.

Ha! Solves that problem! I was planning to make one for my oldest grandson for graduation, but he didn't want any of his shirts cut up. Works for me! :thumbup:

Anytime someone wants me to make a tshirt quilt I send them to an an advertised online site. If you google tshirt quilts, several names of companies that make them will come up. Campus something is the one I usually send them to. The prices will blow them away and they will decide they don't want a t shirt quilt. It's great for those like me that just don't want to do one. I have also just said, No, I don't want to make one of those and I can't they have to be quilted on a longarm. They can't be puddled due to the stretchiness of the fabric. Watch their eyes glaze over when you explain why you can't do it.

I've made 5 t-shirt quilts - most for nieces and nephews, but I did quilts for the sons of a good friend. I do enjoy making them. The only ones I have charged for were those I made for my friend, and I have a couple of more lined up to do. Thank goodness they aren't in a hurry! Were I to do any commissioned ones - and at some point I likely will - $250 would be my base price.
