Years ago, I would not have, but in the last few years, I sure do. In Sleepy Hollow, Johnny Depp was cowering under one. Have you seen a movie recently that had a quilt in it?

sewnsewer2 12-03-2008 12:08 PM

Yes, I do and anything embroidered or handmade too.

racnquilter 12-03-2008 01:12 PM

Have started noticing it.....

Here is a thread I started earlier this year about quilts in the movies.

I notice them all the time. Especially in Westerns you'll see them a lot. I really like the quilts in "Must Love Dogs" and "You've Got Mail."

All the time.

Elizabeth A. 12-03-2008 01:21 PM

Yep! I just rewatched You've Got Mail and she's got a pinwheel quilt on her bed when she's sick!

Not only do I see them, but a good part of the time I even know what the patterns are! LOL!

Yes, I notice them too! I was flipping through the stations the other day and Little House on the Prairie was on - lots of quilts in that show.

it doesn't stop there- went on a tour of a mansion and was looking at a quilt on the maid's bed- it was made in China. I know the event planner- told her I will research her a time period appropraite quilt and make one.

Elizabeth A. 12-03-2008 03:57 PM

Oh wow good for you Barb that's very generous.

Yup, watched Premonition last night...there was a beautiful quilt hanging over a mirror in the Master bedroom.

I've noticed them more since I started quilting but I've always been interested in quilts since way back when I'd stay with my grandma. I wasn't very old when I started noticing the ones she had on her bed. I clearly remember the one that was a wool crazy quilt, I remember it being scratchy. I often wonder what happened to it.

If quilts could talk what stories they'd tell.

Of course! One of the main features in a movie I saw recently was quilts... "How To Make An American Quilt". Also, a bit of trivia for any Knight Rider fans--in "Halloween Knight", Bonnie has a Dresden Plate quilt in her apartment. ;-)

Yes! Just watched 'Seven Brides for Seven Brothers' last week and read that some of the dresses worn for that movie were made from homemade quilts. They were beautiful.

(Good movie too, by the way.)

Elizabeth A. 12-04-2008 09:41 AM

Ditto on that, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is a great movie. I saw it years ago, perhaps it's time to see it again.

reneebobby 12-04-2008 10:41 AM

Oh the Waltons have a bunch in there shows more scrappy.

Boston1954 12-06-2008 09:43 AM

I wonder if I should start making a list of the movies I have seen with quilts in them. It would be interesting to see how many there are.

nellie 12-08-2008 12:28 AM

The Walton's have more beds and they have had several shows where quilts were the subject matter. I love watching Little House on the Prarie too. They have lots of quilts there also.

mrs. fitz 12-08-2008 03:17 PM

On the wonderful BBC comedy "As Time Goes By" starring Judi Dench, the two main characters (Jean & Lionel) have a quilt on their bed. I think it's a pinwheel. It's shown in many episodes.

let me tell a problem i have with the movie gone with the wind ,as a child i loved looking at all clothes and beds with puffy quilts ,they looked so comfy and cozy i wished i could have been in the movie so i,ve could,ve been able to jump on those bed wow,but as i got older and used to watch carol bernett show, this one time she did gone with the wind coming down the stairs wearing a drape wrap around her with the rod drape still on, oh boy that was so funny    and of coures that was the end for me to picture the quilts. just sharing part two of notice quilts in movies
