OR do you use Simplicity/McCall's patterns as well?
I was looking through the pattern books at Hobby Lobby tonight and was amazed at how many FUN patterns are in there that are designed by the SAME designers of quilt shop patterns! Especially tote bags/purses and GIFTY items! and the prices for these patterns are SOOOOOO much cheaper than anything you can buy at the LQS! |
I always forget about the Simplicity and McCall's patterns! I think next time I am at Hancock's or Joann's, I will check them out!
I use patterns from magazines, books, LQS, freebies on the internet, just about anywhere I find a pattern I like the look of. I am all over the board when it comes to patterns.
I use patterns from many places. LQS, pattern books, free websites, etc.
mostly, i use my EQ
I also use patterns from all over the place. The only time I look at Simplicity, etc., is when they are on sale for 99 cents.
Patterns?
LOL I've never fully followed one in my life I don't think...even when I sewed for me and my sons. |
I don't buy individual patterns. I prefer the traditional patterns and most of those are free online :D
No. I look everywhere.
did you know that you can browse the patterns online??
http://www.simplicity.com/default.aspx http://www.mccall.com/ that way you are READY for the next big sale! |
I tear up vintage pattern pieces and attach them to mixed media art quilts...but that's probably not what you meant huh.
I never buy Simplicity/McCalls/Butterick quilting patterns. I just like the quilt books so much better. They are more tactile in some ways, and I love the pictures.
I get patterns from wherever I find them. :)
I mostly get patterns for free from the internet. There is so much free stuff out there! When I first started quilting I subscribed to a couple magazines and have used many of those patterns as well. I don't have a LQS near me (they have all closed in the past 2 years) so, no, I don't use any from LQS.
I do not use any specific brand of patterns nor do I have a specific place I buy them. I use patterns from magazines, from the free online sites and I have bought several from others on this board. I have also bought patterns at garage sales and thrift stores.
I use a lot that I get on the internet, I never even thought to look at the other patterns, will have to check that out.

Ditto and the least expensive the better. |
I get most of my ideas from fabric mfgrs. Website. Moda has great patterns. Quilting Mags from overseas are my next source. Local quilt mags are so repetitive and geared to the newer Quilter.

I use whatever I find that I like.
Patterns??? We're supposed to use a pattern?? JK LOL. I have books and magazines for 'inspiration' but have never made a whole quilt according to one pattern. The sizes always seem to be wrong or I'll be half way finished and the dreaded 'better idea lightbulb' will go off in my head--usually making my project 100% more difficult.
Patterns are just a suggestion. I usually chance them somehow to make each thing my own or I just make it up all together.
I buy patterns all over too. I have several from the LQS but more from the internet- so much availabe! I was just in Joann's the other day & looked at all of the great purse/bag patterns they had in their catalogs- Simplicity was on sale for $0.99 too.
I haven't looked through pattern books in ages, thanks for the heads up! May have to see if we can look at them online too, will try that later! I can see where they would be cheaper too, good idea!

My problem is too many patterns and not being able to find them without a long search.
My favorite, and the only ones I buy anymore, are Quilt In A Day books. I use alot of ink for my printer and its not cheap. Seems the board sidetracks me alot with patterns. I will be all ready to start a project and the board will post a pattern I cant resist. The only place Ive never bought a pattern from is a quilt shop. But have used coupons for books at Joanns. |
