This is exactly what I do with Warm and Natural batts. I want them to shrink the most before I put them in a quilt.

Oh this so what happened to me but it wasnt batting it was a Thermal blanket I was going to use for batting. It was an old blanket I found in some of our moving boxes we hadnt unpacked yet. I thought it would be great batting and tossed into the wash before I sandwiched it. I have the new Kenmores with the 5 way motion and all and after I washed it I opened the washer and it looked like I had Spanish Moss hanging everywhere (it was green at that) The thing fell apart and now I am digging this crap out of the washer. Lets just say I will never do that again!!

But now it is a joke between my wife and I that if a quilt I make can survive the "Fingers of Death" it will live through anything!!

I do not wash mine. I love that puckered and crinkled look.

Thank you all for your sound advice. You've given me lots to think about. In the meantime, I'm busy piecing, and will continue to do so today, provided we don't loose power again. The utility companies are straining with the high heat we've been having here in NY.
