Definitely prefer traditional fabrics, but have used them with a modern pattern like d9p. I like some modern patterns when traditional scrappy fabrics are used. That said, I have bought some modern fabrics that I loved, but now don't know what to do with them. I only make traditional patterns with traditional fabrics for myself. The more modern I make to give away. A lot of the modern I find rather ugly.

 Don't like the Civil War reproduction material either - look muddy to me. Guess I like the contemporary materials and both traditional and contemporary patterns.

I love traditional and since I'm a not so great quilter, I like the simple blocks and patterns, DP9, pinwheels, four patch, Ohio Star, etc. Have been trying to venture out a bit with more complicated blocks, but definitely the traditional ones.

As Irishrose said...traditional patterns but modern fabrics.

I like both. IMHO both have a place - there's something for everyone. Traditional quilts done in scrappy or traditional or modern colors can look amazing in any type/style home, but modern quilts can't just go "anywhere" or it might look out of place.

Both patterns and fabric have to "speak" to me. Consequently, it takes me H-O-U-R-S to select my fabric. On the upside, the cutter at JoAnn's says she is going to have me pick out her fabric for her. Maybe I need to get a job there. But - to answer the question - I'm like the person in an art gallery when asked what genre she liked replied "I don't know, but I'll know it when I see it."

I tend to like them all at one time or another I'll be on a traditional theme, then on to other types. Whatever floats my boat on any particular day.

I'm traditional, but my DC prefer contemporary, so have to switch hats sometimes!!

a bit of both, just recently enjoying traditional where I didn't for a number of years.
